This tree is eleven years old. How do I know? We planted it the year that our youngest son was born, 1998 to be exact. I read somewhere that you should plant a tree to honor a child when he/she is born, so we did.
At first, we weren’t sure if we would be here to enjoy it, thinking that we might one day decide to move. It looks like we will be here for years to come so I am really glad that we planted this tree.
Eleven years ago this Yoshino Cherry was only about 3-4 feet tall, and you can see how it has grown. I love the bark and the branch structure. My only wish is that the blooms lasted longer. To learn more about Yoshinos go here.

That tree and your photos are gorgeous. We had one of those and some kind of worms killed it.

Oh, this is the prettiest tree. I think that's a great tradition, planting a tree when a child is born. My Mom and I like to plant a tree every Mother's Day but we are running out of room. I think I need one of thse Yoshino Cherry trees. Beautiful.

Well Kim, surely worms won't kill a little tree that is planted for a child, LOL. At least I hope not.

There's nothing like a tree you planted — even if you move on — you can always go back, see your tree and remember planting it. And what a special reason — the birth of your child!

That is one gorgeous tree! Looks like clouds or cotton. I would love to get a hold of a tree like that to plant in my front yard. But we probably have a different zone here in San Diego.

What a great post! Your son's tree is beautiful! I'm a fan of the flowering cherry trees.
This is another "kindred" moment! We planted an evergreen to remember our precious Morgan. Then we planted a Maple for our oldest son Max and last year I planted ???? for Miles. Uh-oh, I guess I better get busy planting, he'll be one on this coming Wednesday. Have a good weekend!

We planted trees for each of our young'uns, too. The redbud planted for our baby (now 16) isn't doing very well… and I sooo hope it hangs on. Your tree is absolutely delightful! …and full of charm! I hope those mean worms leave it alone. Please accept my invitation to drop in at my place when you get a moment. I have become a follower and would be honored if you choose to the same! until later…
