After a busy few weeks, I am finally able to sit down and share a few projects I have completed around our home. The first of which is the blue and white plate wall in our kitchen.
Adding a plate wall to our kitchen is something I have wanted to do for a while. (If any of you have been following for a while, you might remember the white plate wall on this same wall years ago.) It’s a project I had been putting off though because doing it felt so daunting. Once I started, it surprisingly came together much quicker than anticipated.
The creative part of any process is always enjoyable to me. I spent some time collecting plates from various sources, including antique shops, thrift stores, and even some family heirlooms that added sentimental value to the display.
Feeling inspired, I began laying the plates out on the dining room table. I played with the arrangement until I found one that worked. I tend to prefer symmetry and balance – so that took much of the guesswork out.
When it came time to hang the plates, I just eye-balled it – starting with the center platter and working my way around. You may want to trace your plates onto craft paper to plan your plate wall. It’s a great way to plan any gallery/plate wall with fewer holes. I used these wire plate hangers to secure them to the wall.
I love having the plate wall as the new focal point in our kitchen, adding warmth and character to the space. It’s one of the first things people notice when they enter the kitchen.
