Hi friends! I’m behind in sharing garden pictures with you this summer. I’ll blame it on having our house painted followed by a solid week of rain. The paint and rain were both worth it though, because now everything looks so fresh and lively.
The new house color (because I know someone will ask) is Decorator’s White by Benjamin Moore. The shutters are Stonington Gray also by Benjamin Moore. We are thrilled with how it all turned out! I was a little concerned about taking the window boxes down while the house was being painted, but it all worked out and they are happier than ever.
My formula this summer is a mix of purple and white million bell petunias, white begonias, blue salvia, grass, and dusty miller.
I like to keep the colors simple in our front yard and tend to lean toward blues/purples and white.

Plants with varying textures add interest. In this case, the begonias have a broader leaf than the rest and the dusty miller adds a touch of silver. It’s still early in the season and I expect everything to continue growing until fall.
A couple of tips
Water in the morning so that plants aren’t wet overnight.
Mid-July cut back trailing petunias so that they will put out new growth and blooms.
Fertilize with this plant food once a month.
Pinch back begonias when they get leggy.
Dusty Miller with continue to grow here in Greensboro all year. I sometimes leave it in the boxes and add pansies in the fall.
