After a long project and busy fall, I’m excited to share our new laundry/mudroom with you today. This post includes thoughts behind the design, how we are using the space, and sources.
I was finally able to photograph our new laundry room, and wanted to share the pictures with you today! This project went on a little longer than we thought as most projects do. Just to remind you, until recently, our washer and dryer were in the dark unfinished basement. Having a laundry room upstairs is huge! I keep calling it a laundry room, but really, it’s so much more. It’s where we keep our gardening boots & gloves. It’s where I arrange flowers and pot bulbs. The deep sink is handy for washing up after gardening and for filling vases with water. I love this space! It might just be my favorite room in the house.
Finding Space
To create this space, we borrowed square footage from the single-car garage. Rick gets all the credit for this brilliant idea. From the beginning, I knew that I wanted beadboard on the walls and slate tile flooring. It’s hard to go wrong with the classics in an old house. The wall color is a warm white and the trim color was color-matched to the cabinets. I love how it all plays nicely with the cooler tile flooring.
Features
One of the goals was to have plenty of storage. Now, there is enough room for cleaning supplies, paper products, and flower vases. I also wanted a rolling laundry sorter. So, we left enough space in the corner for it. Instead of continuing the upper cabinets to the wall, I opted for a hanging rod. It’s perfect for drying delicates and for hanging shirts.
I asked you all a while back for washer and dryer recommendations. We decided to go with an old-school top-loading agitator and it is perfect! It’s truly everything I ever wanted in a washing machine, ha!
We cut a peg rail to hang the ironing board. I love having it easily accessible. Before, it was in a coat closet, and finding a place to iron was always tricky. Confession, I actually enjoy laundry and ironing.
Botanical Prints & Peg Rail
On the wall to the left, as you walk in, there’s plenty of hanging space for hats and also for drying herbs. Boots are grab & go. I found the botanical prints on Facebook Marketplace. The frames came from a thrift store years ago. I love how it all works together in this space!
