Our backyard patio project began about a year ago. I’ve been waiting for the right moment to take pictures of the space to share with you. It was important that the limelight hydrangeas were in bloom, so I had to wait until now. But alas, here we are with the official reveal of the space we’ve been enjoying for months!
The Plan
Our landscape designer is the mastermind behind it all. She came up with a plan that brought the patio surface even with the house, which in turn eliminated the back steps. It’s so nice to walk straight out now and it makes our house feel so much bigger! We used pavers by Belgard for the entire project. They have lots of texture and character which we felt was the perfect choice for our 1930’s home.
The design plan included most of the plants that were already growing in our yard. We only bought a handful of new plants to fill out the design. We knew we wanted to be surrounded by hydrangeas and I love seeing them just beyond the patio wall. They are like lights at night! Boxwood serves as anchors for later when the hydrangeas die back for the winter. I could never have enough of either.
Creating a Comfortable Outdoor Living Space
The huge cantilever umbrella and gas firepit are both game-changers in terms of our outdoor living experience. The umbrella is big enough to cover the chair and sectional. It’s also waterproof which is nice. The firepit uses a propane tank. The tank is stored in the end table at end of the sectional. We also have a standup heater for colder nights.
The holly hedge we planted years ago is so pretty now. You can never go wrong with an evergreen hedge – they are not only classic and elegant but also look great all year long.
Comfortable furniture was a must because we knew we’d be spending as much time as possible out here. After searching the web, we chose this sectional and have been quite happy with it. It comes with two sets of cushion covers – tan plus the color you choose.
Creating a Comfortable Outdoor Dining Space
The other side of the patio holds our dining area. We eat out here almost every night and have hosted several dinner parties. The table seats eight comfortably. We actually need to buy more chairs, but so far have been pulling chairs from the lower patio (not shown).
The raised bed vegetable gardens are just beyond the wall at the end of the table. It’s so nice to enjoy our dinners surrounded by things that make us happy.
My sweet daughter-in-law works for The Hammock Source and snagged these Adirondack chairs for us at the sample sale. I found the blue and white garden stool at Tuesday Morning.
