This post contains details of how we designed and installed our new Tuff Shed from Home Depot.
Today, I’m excited to share our new black shed with you! Our old shed had seen better days. The rusty old metal building had served us well and was long overdue for an upgrade. After a year of collecting inspiration on Pinterest and Instagram, we knew what we wanted. Home Depot has a feature that allows you to design what you want. We designed our Tuff shed in no time! Local, licensed shed installers did the installation for us. Scroll down to read all about it.
THE EXTERIOR
We chose all black for the exterior. I love how it looks against the evergreen backdrop!
Our building is 10’X10′. It fits perfectly in the spot where the old building was. I’m so glad we did not have to move the boxwood shrubs that are flanking the front door! We designed our shed to have one door and a transom window. There are lots of door/window options on the site.
On one side of the shed is the potting bench that Rick made years ago. She’s pretty saggy, but she’s still hanging in there. Oh the joys of growing old, lol! I love having this space to plant flowers. Everything is handy with tools and potting soil in the shed nearby.
The building sits on concrete blocks so Rick put wire mesh around the base to hopefully fend off critters.
On the other side, we planted a border of hosta and autumn ferns. We found those along with a few Annabelle hydrangeas in an overgrown corner of our yard. They were transplanted and have adjusted nicely to their new digs.
THE RAMP FOR ENTRY
Rick made this ramp out of decking boards. He covered it with chicken wire for traction. We had one just like it for our last shed, which lasted many years.
Here is the back side in case you want to see how it’s put together.
OUR DOOR SOLUTION
We needed a way to hold the door open so we used an eye-screw and some black and white rope. It does the trick!
THE INTERIOR
The inside was originally unfinished wood, but I wanted something more cheerful. We sprayed the ceiling and walls with white exterior paint using this paint sprayer. It’s great for big paint projects. I rolled the floors with grass-green floor paint. It looks so fresh and cheerful!
I found this tool organizer on Amazon. It had mostly good reviews and was very budget-friendly. So far so good!
Our building has two shelves with lots of gardening supplies, tools, etc.

Love, love, love the black exterior paint! Could you share the color and brand? Thanks! Kym

Thanks so much, Kym! The color is called black magic and it was the only black paint available on the Tuff Shed website. Hope this helps!

I love everything about this – how you finished the inside, your trick to hold the door open, your trick for the ramp, your plantings, and especially the black exterior. It blends in so much more with the surrounding foliage compared to a light colored shed. Excellent job all the way around.

Thank you for this post. We have been considering a shed and this is just what we had in mind. I didn’t realize installation could be handled by the shed company/Home Depot. We will be getting a quote. Can you share which shingle color you used?
René says
My apologies for not responding sooner! I don’t recall the shingle color, but it was the darkest option they had. Hope this helps!
