It’s time to share the most popular room in the house, our kitchen. Our days start and end in this room. Whenever we entertain, the kitchen is where we usually hang out. Each Christmas, I like to add a few festive touches, but for me, simple is always better. Greenery and flowers win every time.
On the island, I like to keep fresh flowers in the pottery vase my dad made many years ago. The smell of lilies fills the air.
I cut a few branches from the aucuba hedge in our backyard. The red berries are so pretty this year. While I’m not really a red person, the pop of color is nice. I picked up a preserved boxwood garland, hoping to use it on the banister. It was a little too dinky for the banister, but it’s the perfect addition to the light fixture over our kitchen table.
Here’s a close-up of the aucuba. There is plenty more in the yard in case I need to freshen up the arrangement.
A close-up of the preserved boxwood garland – I like it, but two wrapped together would be even better.
Last but not least, the open shelving received some Christmas love with the cypress and berry wreath on the top shelf. In case you missed the rest of the Christmas tour, here are links to the exterior, and the living room.

Beautiful! You are the first person since my mom died to use the term “dinky.” It is invaluable, right? But the garland is perfect where you have it!

That’s too funny, Harriet! Yes, great word, haha! Thank you!

Simple and beautiful! I was interested to see your acuba – I have the variegated variety in my yard. I had no idea there was a non-variegated (solid?) variety. It is so pretty! And I use “dinky” all the time, but I am 58 so maybe it is generational. 🙂
