I’m pretty sure that once upon a time I swore that I would never have an artificial Christmas tree. That was until we made the switch a few years ago. Now, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to having a natural tree for a few reasons. We like to trim our tree early (or at least put it up with lights early) so that we can enjoy it longer. It’s harder to do this with natural trees because they dry out. Yes, you can water them, but let’s face it. Sometimes we forget and even with the best intentions, the trees eventually begin to lose needles and become brittle (and maybe even a fire hazard). I do love the smell of a real tree. I counter that by placing fresh cuttings around the house. I also find that a well-appointed candle or reed diffuser can be pretty darn convincing.

Me too, I swore I would never get an artificial tree. But they’ve gotten better, so convincing, and we were paying $150+ for a real tree tall enough for our high ceilings. Two years ago, I was in Home Depot for something else and saw a tall tree that I liked a lot, told my husband about it and he said, “Let’s get it.” It is so much easier to set up plus we can keep it up longer. Also, the branches will hold heavier ornaments than a real tree. So if you’ve been undecided about making the switch, my advice is to go look at artificial trees and you might be convinced.
