Greetings, friends! I hope you all had a nice weekend. I’ve been busier than ever lately and feel like I might be finally catching up. Last night we celebrated R’s birthday with grilled ahi tuna (his favorite) and had key lime cheesecake and cupcakes from Delicious for dessert. What a beautiful day it was!
Today, I’m excited to share our new island with you! It’s something we’ve wanted for the longest time, but I wanted to be absolutely sure that the size was right. We were nervous that there wasn’t enough space for an island. It arrived about a week ago and it took no time to adjust to the new set up. We love it!
It’s so nice to have a spot to serve dinner, or to unload groceries, or prep lunches. i just love it! The extra storage is nice too. I have the mixing bowls handy on the bottom and my oats, which I grab daily, in the canister. Reagan’s cookies are in one jar and I’m certain she has noticed, lol!
Design-wise, I love the black base and how it compliments the black granite countertops. I also love how the marble finish brightens up the room so much. Extra towel bars on each end are a nice touch, also. We wanted a working island rather one for seating – so this is perfect.
We’ve been keeping fresh flowers from the garden here and it’s such a nice welcome when you first enter the kitchen.
Now, we just need a rug and the space will be complete. I’m torn between a simple sisal rug or a vintage rug with muted color. What do you think?

Love the island! I vote vintage rug. It will give the room a little punch and wool rugs are easier to clean.

Love this! My vote goes to the vintage rug – it will give the room a bit of color/texture! Gorgeous kitchen!

Wow, looks great and gives you more storage space. For a rug, I’d go with muted colors to add some color to the space. And in my experience, sisal stains unevenly when it gets wet so I’d be cautious using it by the sink.

Thank you! Great point!

Love it! Can I ask how big of a space you had to work with? How much space (feet) is there to walk on all sides. Thanks!
René says
Thank you! It’s just over eight feet from the sink to the opposite wall. 3 1/2′ from the stove to the island. 3′ from the sink to the island. Just under 3′ from the wall to the island. Hope this helps.

It’s perfect! Both in style and function. Last year I added a small island to my small kitchen. It is a workhouse. I don’t know how we functioned in the kitchen before adding it.

I agree! It’s been the best thing! Thank you for commenting, Diane!

I love the island, but for some reason, the link won’t open for me. Can you comment with the website?
René says
Of course! It’s from Wayfair – https://bit.ly/3bkY5yB
Hope this helps!

Love your kitchen! I would definitely go with the vintage rug to add color and pattern. My kitchen is basically black and white with wood tones like yours. It is the perfect backdrop for a colorful rug. I have a Kilim rug… not vintage, but love the colors and pattern.

Beautiful. I would go with a vintage rug….more comfortable on feet and add so much to any room!
