Howdy! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was just okay. We tried a new pizza joint and went to see a movie. Other than that, it was pretty low key. The sun did finally shine and I was able to take some pictures of the changes I’ve been telling you about. Yay for that!
A couple of weekends ago R and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary by rearranging the house. Nothing says I love like moving heavy furniture around, right? I’ve been wanting to add more natural wood tones to our home and had been on the hunt for rattan chairs for the living room. I, of course, scoured the internet, because I’m admittedly an online shopper at heart. Everything I found was either the wrong scale or the wrong price.
As luck would have it, we found these chairs at a local consignment store for a steal! I was tempted to just settle for something and I’m so glad I held out until I found just the thing. If there’s something I’ve learned, it’s to stick to my original plan. It saves money in the long run and you never know when the perfect thing will present itself. I also consigned the heavy end tables that had been in between the previous chairs and opted for this garden stool.
I felt like the room needed something tall on the wall approaching the dining room to offset the arched opening. So, we moved the armoire in from my office. Things were really starting to fall into place and I was thrilled that we were able to use what we had, but it all felt new. Do you know what I mean? #shoppingthehousewin
I zushed up the topiary plants on the mantle by going out to my potting bench and finding two moss-covered terra cotta pots. I stuck some wire moss in around them and now they look so much better. Give me all the mossy, earthy things.
The table that had been behind the sofa was so delicate that you could almost blow it over in one breath. It is now in my office holding orchids that are waiting to re-bloom. I’ll show you that at a later date. I grabbed this table while it was on sale (it’s still on sale, by the way). It’s the perfect scale for the sofa and has two drawers which are handy for stashing keys, etc. since we use this table as an entry table. If only you could have seen me carry this thing in from the front porch by myself. Assembly was super easy although an extra pair of hands would have been nice. I need to find a couple of baskets to go underneath to hold blankets, etc.
I’m also looking to add one more pillow to the sofa and maybe move that blanket to the new baskets once found. What to do? Any thoughts?
You can find most of the items in this room here. Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have the best Monday!

I love your living room spruce-up, especially the rattan chairs. Did the seat cushions come with them or does a standard size fit?
René says
Hi Cathy. These are cushions that I made to replace ones that our dog chewed up. See post here
Even though the chairs are comfortable without any cushions, I’ll probably make a pair just because I think they look more “finished”. I’ve priced out custom cushions, but they are a little more than I want to spend right now. Hope this helps.
