Sometime last fall I shared our new cabinet door installation on my Instagram stories. Several of you wanted more details about the process. I posted pictures of the updated kitchen in a Christmas post but I thought it would be better to do a separate post about the updates.
I’ve always loved the shaker style for cabinets and I’m pretty sure white kitchens will always be my jam. Our old cabinet doors were white – the kind you buy already made at Lowes or Home Depot. They were beginning to show age and the doors closest to the stove were actually unwrapping. Instead of totally replacing the cabinets (which weren’t that old), we opted for a more budget-friendly alternative – Home Depot DIY cabinet doors. The process was easy. We took measurements of all of our existing doors and made an appointment with a cabinet person at Home Depot. We went over all of the details with him and he placed our order. We went with Martha Stewart picket fence doors. They are no longer advertised and I cannot locate them on the Home Depot website, but I think they are still available. Our doors were ready in about six weeks.
Full disclosure, I love the new cabinets, but they aren’t perfect. As you can see, we didn’t account for the sink panel + the door height when we measured for the pull out pantry and lazy susan. That was totally our fault. I’m learning to live with it as there could be worse things. That’s just something for you to keep in mind if you decide to go this route.
Overall, I am very happy with the upgrade and how fresh and clean everything looks!
This used to be one small drawer and two large drawers. We turned one of the large drawers into two and added a ton of space! I don’t have pictures but the top drawer holds miscellaneous utensils. The second drawer is cooking utensils. The third drawer holds spices and the large drawer holds towels, washcloths, and oven mitts. We went with these pulls. The bin pulls that were there previously felt too heavy.
One of my favorite things is this pull-out pantry. There used to be a make-shift wine rack in this space, but now it’s much more efficient.
I keep baking mostly supplies and peanut butter and honey in there.
As far as the quality of the cabinets, I feel like they are well made. The drawers have dovetail corners and are very sturdy. R did have to glue a cabinet door corner together that was separating, but other than that, I think we got our money’s worth.
I hope I’ve answered some of your questions, but feel free to leave a comment or send me an email if you’d like to know more.
