I love coffee and drink it every morning and then either tea or coffee sometime after lunch for a quick pick me up (see how I roast my own beans). When it’s so hot outside I find cold brew to be much more enjoyable than drinking a hot beverage. I’m not loyal to any certain brand, but rather buy whatever is on sale at the time. I used to make cold brew at home years ago but began relying on the convenience of picking up a bottle at the grocery store. Then I discovered a super-easy way to make it myself using a French press. Am I the only one who didn’t know this trick?

I used a ratio of 4 cups cold filtered water to 1 cup coarsely ground coffee beans (I used these beans). Some recommend starting with 3/4 cup coffee beans. I poured the beans into the bottom on a French press and gave it a stir. I then covered it with plastic wrap and stuck in the fridge. I let it steep 18 hours, gave it another stir and used the press to separate the beans from the coffee. It was a bit mild for my taste. I let it steep again until the next day and it was even better, but I like strong coffee. The general rule is 18-24 hours, the longer you let it steep the stronger the coffee becomes. It’s all a matter of personal preference.

To serve, I fill a glass with ice and top it the cold brew. Sometimes I add a splash of milk & sometimes I drink it black.
