A few weeks ago I went to the beach with one of my best friends. We were almost to Oak Island when this little roadside shop caught my eye. My friend and I decided to turn the car around and check it out. At first, I thought it was a pottery store but then realized everything was made of wood.
Many of you know that my father is deceased. As a child, I believed (and still do) that he could make anything. He made a sailboat we actually sailed in. He made bread, restored antique cars, designed and built buildings, made furniture, framed art, and turned wooden bowls. So you can imagine my excitement when I found this little gem full of wooden bowls.
My friend and I each bought a bowl and spent a few moments visiting with the nice man who created them. He was a delight!
Our bowls came from an apple tree he cut down in his yard. He told us that the apples were never good and that the tree had to go. So he decided to make three bowls from the tree.
He also made rolling pins, utensils, and dough bowls out of other types of wood which were all beautiful.
He asked us where we were from and told us that he had customers from Maine to California. He marks each customer on the map hanging inside. I’ll be stopping there again.
