At the end of the day, I fluff & karate chop the pillows in our family room. I stack the coasters & take any glassware to the kitchen. It’s nice waking up to a clean slate!
Sometime after dinner and before bed, I wipe down the kitchen counters with a mixture of 1 part rubbing alcohol and 3 parts water. This combination not only kills germs but cuts grease & makes our countertops shine. I also use it on our stovetop when it needs it, which is daily if I cook. Dishcloths and towels get replaced with fresh ones to be used the next day. I use to sponges, but feel like dishcloths might be a better way to go when it comes to germs.
During the day our kitchen table is the dumping ground for newspapers, magazines, mail, etc. So I make sure all of that is put away before I go to bed. I also fluff the pillows if needed.
Bathroom hand towels also get replaced at the end of each day. I use the dirty towel to wipe down the sink area and faucet.

Seriously – this is my exact routine. Add vacuum (my dog sheds A LOT!)I love that my house is never out of control and I don't have to spend all of my off time (aka – the weekend) cleaning.

Lately, I've been making a concerted effort to train myself to pick up and put stuff away as I walk through my house. Rather than just leaving shoes, bags, mail etc. etc. lying around…until I make a mad dash to put it away all at once. This alone has made a huge difference in tidiness. And keeps me on track.

100%. I taught my sons to make their beds when they get up…both wives thank me for this! 🙂 I like to come home to a tidy home.

I'm having my house deep-cleaned tomorrow and am looking for tips to keep it up afterwards. These are great! Is the cleaning solution you describe ok to use on granite countertops and glasstop stoves?

My one consistent housekeeping habit is to deal with the mail each day. Junk mail gets tossed into the recycling bin immediately and important mail goes on either my desk or my husband's desk. Magazines get special treatment (smile).
I wish I was better about making the bed every morning. I agree that it's so nice to see the bed made rather than it be all messy, so I don't know why I don't make it a priority every day. I must start making it one!
