I hope you all made it through the hurricane safely. We thought we were in fairly good shape until I heard the sound of water pouring somewhere in the house shortly after midnight last night. The crawl space in our basement had filled with water and was running over the edge down into the concrete area where the furnace, hot water heater, and washer & dryer are (along with Christmas decorations, bulk items and some of my hoarding). Several inches of water had already accumulated. I kept filling up 5-gallon buckets and the guys took them upstairs to dump in the toilet. We did this for what seemed like an eternity. The water just kept coming! Once it slowed a bit we vacuumed the remaining water up and carried it upstairs the same way. I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done if I had been here alone. It took all three of us working constantly to make any progress and for a while, we only maintained the water level without really improving it. We aren’t quite out of the weeds yet though because another storm is coming this morning. It’s such a helpless feeling to watch your home fill with water and feel like there’s no end in sight. I can’t even imagine what others have gone through who are in much worse situations.
How about something happy, like a pretty home tour? When I first saw this Nantucket beauty, it was love at first sight! The vintage touches add the perfect amount of warmth and character while the interesting mix of textiles and textures keep it all so fresh. You can see the full tour here. Enjoy!
