I’ve always said that homes don’t have to be big & fancy – actually, sometimes less is more. The key (at least for me) is to keep it simple. We chose to stick with a green and white color combo in our front yard. We met with a landscape designer who helped us come up with a plan and installed most of it ourselves.
I really love how our designer recommended creating a special “feature” garden in front of our sunroom window. In it, we included dwarf English boxwood, hellebores, and Annabelle hydrangeas. It’s always a good idea to combine evergreen and deciduous plants in your landscape so that there is always something green any time of the year.
I’ve always been a sucker for window boxes! I just love charm they add and they can be changed out with the seasons. Sometimes I stuff mine with magnolia branches in the winter.
Other details that elevate a home’s curb appeal include copper flashing & downspouts (on my wishlist), good outdoor lighting (also on my wishlist), architectural shingles, and functional shutters with appropriate hardware. I believe little details make all the difference!
