There’s nothing like laying on the beach reading a good book. Slightly South of Simple, written by my friend Kristy Harvey came at the perfect time and I plan to dive in this week. Many of you already know Kristy from the blog, Design Chic which she co-writes with her mother. You may have also read Kristy’s previous books Dear Carolina and Lies and Other Acts of Love. I so enjoy Kristy’s writing style as well as her Southern perspective. Slightly South of Simple is scheduled to launch April 25th and you can order it here. Before leaving for vacation I was able to join Kristy for a fun interview that I think you’ll enjoy. Also, be sure to watch the video at the end of the post for a bit more about Kristy and her latest book. Enjoy!
René: Describe your personal style in three words.
Kristy: fresh, warm, inviting
René: Beach or mountains?
Kristy: Beach!
René: What’s your go-to recipe for a crowd?
Kristy: Pimento cheese tray with apple onion slaw and spiced pecans. The combination is insanely delicious!
René: What’s your secret hostess tip?
Kristy: Assemble people who don’t all know each other but where everyone has one good friend. It helps everyone meet new people while not straying too far out of their comfort zone! For me, it has always been the recipe for a really good time!
René: Do you have a favorite summer sip?
Kristy: I’m boring, but champagne is always first in my heart.
René: What song will make you roll down the window & turn up the dial?
Kristy: Honestly? Pretty much anything Taylor Swift.
René: You’re going on a mystery trip this weekend and can only take three things. What are they?
Kristy: Bikini, Bare Minerals foundation because it has sunscreen built in, and a good book
René: Salty or sweet?
Kristy: Sweet!
René: What is one thing you want others to know about you?
Kristy: I think I’m proof that chasing that big dream, that one that you are too afraid to even tell your best friend about is worth it. Big dreams are rarely easy, but they’re almost always worth it.
René: Who is your greatest inspiration?
Kristy: My mom. She has always put her family first and is super smart and a very hard worker. She’s always learning new things and I admire that so much.
René: Thanks so much for the fun interview Kristy! I think we need more details about the pimento cheese tray, yum! And you can never go wrong with champagne! I love the image of you and your mother so much – two beauties!
Wishing you every success with the book launch! XO
