For some reason it takes a body of water, be it a pool or ocean, to allow me time to catch up on magazines. Can anyone relate? While at the beach a couple of weeks ago I recently discovered this cottage located in Southwest Harbor, Maine featured in Country Living. I’m always intrigued by homes that are smaller in scale, but serve a family well while not sacrificing style. This particular home is only 1200 square feet and I find it so inspiring. A couple of takeaways that I believe help the flow: white floors and walls throughout with the exception of the dining room which is charcoal gray.
Possibly my favorite part of the entire home is the screened porch. I imagine it’s a life saver in the summer months for adding living space. I would never leave the day bed!
Wood cabinets, lacquered brass, stainless steel appliances, floating shelves, shiplap, and a drafting table all work together to bring both function and style to this small kitchen.
The family room is light and airy thanks to the whites walls and neutral upholstered pieces. Love how the gray from the dining room is repeated on the doors.
Window seats are almost always a great use of space in dining areas. Lucite chairs offer seating without taking up visual space.
I love the continuing theme of white with wood throughout the home. They used pieces that maximize storage like this chest in the family room.
High ceilings make the master bedroom room appear larger.
How adorable is the girls’ room?
Love the layered textiles in the guest room.
