Several months ago, I mentioned that our dining room is undergoing a few changes. So far I’ve DIY’d the drapes to make them look a little more custom. I also painted the dining table to make it a little more coastal/casual. I’ve been squirreling away ideas as I find my way through the process. Design is always a process and I’ve learned to take my time and not rush into a hasty decision that I’ll later regret. With age comes wisdom I suppose. It’s been a fun process – one that reaffirms my end goals for this space because my plan hasn’t really changed since I started all of this way back when.
Today I wanted to share a little bit about my vision so you can see the process and thoughts behind where we are and where we are going. The image above serves as color inspiration. I’m in love with blues, pinks, and greens, and lots of white. The wall color will most likely change to classic gray to flow with the living room. I’m saving that decision for last once all of the elements come together.
These are a few images of dining rooms that speak to me. Either white or distressed tables paired with white chairs. While I would love score a set of bamboo chairs, I’ve decided to stick with the ones we have for now and recover the seats. So I ordered this fabric and while recover the chairs asap.
To inject color I will add a statement piece of art over the sideboard. Something like this only larger.
I’ve also ordered this rug. We’ve never had a rug in our dining room before so I cannot wait for this! I think it’s really going to define the space and add warmth.
I’ll move my blue and white collection to the dining room like this. I haven’t decided if I’ll paint our china cabinet or not, hmmm.
There’s also room for a pair of chairs by a window which would create a nice spot to sit and read or enjoy a beverage. We have a pair of wingback chairs that are currently in other rooms and in desperate need of new upholstery. This may not happen immediately, but I would love to do something like this using pale blue linen.
I plan to add a bar cart across from the sitting area.

I love your inspiration, Rene! It's funny b/c Rebecca's home (first image) is my inspiration for our Living Room. I want the a light and airy look with lots of blue, green, white and touches of pink. I just painted our walls FB Blackened. I can't wait to see where you go with this and your post has already given me some new ideas!! Looking forward to seeing the progress! Good Luck!
