I prefer a simple skincare routine – one that includes a good cleanser and a moisturizer that works without being greasy. Now that I’m older I also like products that reverse sun damage and reveal fresh, brighter skin. Here are few things I’m loving right now.
1. SheaMoisture Black African Soap – I use this soap morning and night. My face feels clean without feeling dry and the fragrance is lovely. The other bonus is that it lasts forever and costs under $5. As a side note, my son is using the body wash to counteract the dry skin that comes with being a year round swimmer and to combat breakouts.
2. Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment – I apply this eye cream morning and night. I like that it stays in place and doesn’t migrate into my eyes. The skin around my eyes looks brighter and rejuvenated and it never burns like many eye creams can. When I use it in the morning, I apply it after my shower so that it can absorb before applying makeup.
3. Vitamin C Serum – This is my secret to reversing sun damage – dang those wrinkles & age spots! I apply it after my morning shower under my moisturizer. Costs around $10.
4. Tinkle Razors – A while back I was out with friends and one friend asked what to do about the peach fuzz growing on her face. I shared my little secret with her about shaving. If you have never heard of this before, try google searching “should women shave their face”. You’ll be surprised how many do. I’ve found these razors to be the absolute best for getting rid of the peach fuzz. My makeup goes on smoothly, my face looks brighter, and no more granny fuzz. It’s something I do every week or two and I love the results.
5. Keihl’s Ultra Facial Cream – I’m currently out of this cream and am trying to decide whether to order more or hold out for spring when I switch over to Cetaphil. I apply either of these over my Vitamin C serum and under my makeup each morning.
6. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery – I apply this each night over the Retinol. It absorbs quickly, smells amazing, and my skin feels so good.
7. Retinol – My skin is thanking me for finding this product! It contains 2.5% retinol, hyaluronic acid, along with natural ingredients. I’ve been applying this after washing my face in the evening and my skin looks brighter, my pores are smaller, and the fine lines seem to be diminishing. I find that it isn’t moisturizing enough for me so I apply the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery just before bedtime.
8. The Lip Scrub – I received this for Christmas, love it and have even convinced the men in the house to try. Inevitably, we all get dry lips from time to time and this stuff works wonders. I use it once a week before washing my face.
Some of these products sound so great – can't wait to try! And reading all about the shaving thing!! Who knew?! Not sure I'm ready to try it yet though…..:)

Happy to share Sheila! The shaving thing isn't for every body. 🙂
I love posts about beauty products Rene. I see that Shea Moisture line and have wondered if it's good, I will have to try the soap (sounds very exotic!) I have a little electric "lady shaver" for the peach fuzz! My girlfriends all thought I was crazy and now I've got them all hooked. Also very handy for my little 13 year old son who is in between peach fuzz and needing to learn how to shave!! (doesn't seem possible) Thank you for these recommendations!
Lisa, You can find the soap at grocery stores too – there are lots of brands, but I think they are all similar. I haven't seen the lady shaver, but it sounds great. I too like beauty posts and like to hear what works for others, especially women my age.
I love your beauty posts! Definetly going to try the oil and retinol! Thanks!
They are both a great price as those types of products are normally pricey. Hope you like them.
Great post Rene! I always love hearing about new skin care products. I have super dry sensitive skin and it's been a struggle to keep it moisturized. The Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream sounds like it might be a good one for me to try. Thanks for sharing what you use!
Allison, I love Kiehls products! Fortunately my husband brings home samples for me to try before making the investment. You might also like the plumping serum which I forgot to include in the post and the midnight recovery eye treatment. Both are great!
Rene, thanks for the recommendations! Lucky you getting the samples! I've been using the Skin Ceuticals line and love their products but it is a bit pricey. I would love to try something new that works as well without the $$. I am going to give Kiehls a try!
I clicked on the tinkle link and everyone on Amazon is complaining that they are knock-offs (not actually tinkle) – here is another Amazon tinkle link that might be more accurate? http://www.amazon.com/Jessica-Tinkle-Eyebrow-Shaper-3pk/dp/B000BIUGFK/ref=as_at?tag=p0a91a-20&linkCode=as2&
Thanks Trish. I linked to the ones that I purchased and am perfectly happy with them.
I LOVE my tinkle razors. I've gotten many of my girlfriends hooked, too. Great list and awesome price on the Retinol- excited to try it!
I'd love to know some of your favorite makeup products! What is your favorite foundation, etc.?
I just ordered the retinol product. I've been looking for something new. Thank you!
Hi Kathy. I've been using Nars tinted moisturizer with sunscreen for years and love it!
