Hi all! Today I’m excited to share a few updates to my son’s room. He and I felt that the room had begun to feel too dark and we agreed to lighten the walls. He also wanted to move the bed back to the window wall so that you see it when entering the room. So back to window wall it went.
First things first – the wall color needed to change. We gave it a fresh coat of Sherwin Williams rock candy. It’s a light gray with slightly cool undertones. We both agree that it has an incredibly peaceful feeling. I love this color! The bed works so much better in this position so I’m glad he suggested moving it. We also found a new desk from IKEA that gives him more room to work and the extra storage is a plus! The chair was also an IKEA score. It is surprisingly comfortable!
The real stunner though is the new art from Minted that my son chose. I wanted a statement piece for his room and this one is perfect. We went with a 40 x 30″ framed in white. (#gobigorgohome) I can honestly say that I’ve been thoroughly pleased with every piece of art I’ve received from Minted and consider them one of my favorite sources for art – especially art that’s already framed. Minted connects with the best independent artists offering endlessly fresh, truly unique art, stationery, and home decor you won’t find anywhere else. So add them to your source list if you haven’t already.
The two pieces of art by the bed were gifted and DIY. The sconces, bedding, and curtains all stayed the same, but look so much brighter now that the room is lighter.

I like the new wall color Rene! I will have to remember that one – Rock Candy! Perfect for a kid! I like how it still lets the white trim show up and allows that beautiful bed and your cool new art to be the stars of the show!

Love the new art and that bed! Did you, at some point, have the bed refinished, or did you paint it yourself?

Rene,
Love the changes, lovely. Is there a tutorial for how you did the curtains! They look awesome.
René says
Karen,
They came that way, but it doesn't look like they are available now.

What a gorgeously tailored room, Rene. The bedding color combination is truly inspired. Great job by mother and son. Cheers, Ardith

Your son's room looks great, Rene!! The wall color is very serene and sophisticated, and I like your son's cannonball-style bed and bed linens. The new wall art looks great and so do the desk and chair. My husband and I have made several trips to the Charlotte Ikea lately; except for that horrendous traffic, it's a fun trip. 😉
You and your son did a great job with his room; I imagine he enjoys time spent there. Have a good week!
Hugs,

I love what you've done with this room Rene, especially the art ! I've been looking for wall art for my son's room for awhile now and though I'm still dying for a vintage map, I'm thinking that something from Minted could fill the bill instead. The paint color is nice too!

Love this room René. It feels nicely sophisticated and grown up for a young man. The art is terrific.

My son's nursery is currently painted Hale Navy. While I love it now, I know it will eventually wear on me and I'll want to go lighter. Please tell me it wasn't too terrible going from navy to light? I'm already anticipating my painter giving me crazy face when I tell him I want to take the room back to white.

I can so relate! Love the color, it was just time to move on. My son and I painted it with two coats, no primer. I've painted over dark colors before and usually two coats does the trick. Good luck!
