Our youngest turns 17 this week. In keeping with family tradition, the birthday person gets to choose what we have for dinner. Our son requested spaghetti which is always a crowd pleaser. Funny thing is, I make spaghetti almost every week, but he still wants it on his birthday. My recipe is so easy that I almost feel guilty that everyone likes it so much. Almost.
To make the sauce I chop one yellow onion, one green bell pepper, and lots of garlic (4 big cloves).
I like to use lean ground beef for my spaghetti sauce – usually 93% lean. It has enough fat to cook the veggies without being overly greasy. Once the ground beef is browned I add the onion & green pepper and saute for about 2 minutes or until they are crisp tender. Next I add the garlic and cook for about a minute. And finally I add the time saver – the sauce. (I like this one because it has no artificial flavors or high fructose corn syrup.)
Once this simmers for 20-30 minutes I toss it with thin spaghetti and serve it up on a pasta platter.
A little freshly grated parmesan and parsley from the kitchen garden sprinkled on top and it’s supper time!

This looks delicious. My Mr. and sons love Prego…it's probably the one with high fructose syrup, but they've voted and insist it's the best jarred sauce. I like a few easy recipes in the pantry. Happy birthday to your son.

Thank you Karen! Either way, it's nice to have any easy "go-to" recipe on busy school nights. Cheers!
