I’m smack in the middle of a master bedroom bedroom refresh. So far the room has been painted with Benjamin Moore healing aloe. It is the most soothing color imaginable and Mr. even comments on it often. Side note: he rarely mentions wall color, so this is big ya’ll. Our bed is a mahogany four post Chippendale bed that was hand made by my late father. Even though I would never choose this style for myself, I love the bed and the daily reminder of my dad. The style is very traditional and finding the right bedding can sometimes be a challenge. A bed without a footboard would add “visual”square footage to our tiny bedroom, but this one isn’t going anywhere. I’m always intrigued when I see a similar bed that looks “current”. Modern twists on tradition has always been a favorite design approach of mine. I like the idea of a tailored bedskirt as much as I like the idea of no bedskirt. Paint is a great way to update the look too, although I won’t be painting ours. So many decisions. Do you have a four post bed?

I can't wait to see the updates to your master!! I have always loved four poster beds. It's funny that you did a post on this because the past two weeks, I've noticed I've been drawn to the four poster beds from S&L (very simple in design) and the one I saw in the September issue of HB (a spindle four poster bed). I would love to get one for my daughter when she is ready for a big girl room!!

The spindle is so pretty Fran!

I love a four post bed. I have one in walnut and one in mahogany (handmade in Mebane, NC-Craftique). I can't wait to see what you do.

I have a four poster bed as well. It is made out of pine and have been thinking of painting or staining as the natural finish has aged it looks a bit orange. I prefer mine without a skirt. Looking forward to seeing your changes!

Paint sounds like it might be the way to go Mary. My goal is to either remove the current bed skirt all together or replace it with a skirt on a tension rod. It requires a custom skirt and ours needs to be updated.

I have a four poster bed and 2 years ago painted it white! No skirt. White bedding and lots of pillows! I love it in my Little Bitty Damn Houze!

I just wanted you to know that I love your blog. I read it every morning with my coffee. I went to college in Charlotte many years ago and live in coastal NC. I am a retired art teacher and I do commissions now so I do have an eye for interiors and I love yours!! Thank you for making mornings enjoyable.

Oooh, I can't wait to see what you do! That paint color is so spa like, really pretty! I thought no bedskirt gave ours a more modern look. Btw, we did get a larger rug, just of of stock at the time, I feel the need to tell everyone that, haha! Thanks so much for the mention sweet friend!

I did have a beautiful mahogany 4 poster but it was a queen. After 10 years I sold it to get a king bed and it was life changing:) I do love them though…..
