It comes with great pleasure to finally share pictures of our recent bathroom renovation! In case you are new to the blog, our house was built in 1938. This particular bathroom had original yellow and black tile, original sink with rusty chrome legs, medicine cabinet, and plumbing. Needless to say, this bathroom needed updates! This wasn’t something we wanted to do ourselves, so we brought in the professionals. So glad we did because we love it!
The walls were taken back to the studs and new waterproofing and sheetrock was added. We also added new subway tile in the shower up to the ceiling with chair moulding to finish the window and a shower niche to house shampoo, etc. should the teenagers ever decide to use it. My absolute favorite part is the carrera hexagon tile on the floor!
You can see my original vision for the room here. See sources at the end of the post.

Thank you Darlene!
Fabulous job, Rene! It looks so fresh, clean and classy.
Aw, thanks Monica!
Love it – great finish choices and those hexagon floors are gorgeous. The shower curtain and towels are perfect in there.
Thank you so much!
there is nothing prettier than a classic white bathroom – well done girlie, it's beautiful! xo
Why thank you Tessa!
Looks FABULOUS Rene!

Thanks Jill!
It's perfectly timeless, just as I knew it would be! Love your pretty edited styling, too!
Thank you Pam!
I love it, Rene! I chose similar finishes in our new master bath … I've done white subway tile in the shower (but it's beveled), and I did one-inch hexagon carrara on the shower floor. For the floor of the rest of the bathroom, I wanted to do the hex carrara, but it was too expensive! Instead I did a matte carrara in 12×24 but I had the tile masons lay it out in a herringbone pattern. I'm thrilled with the way it came out! Hopefully within the next month or so I'll be able to share it on my blog … we were supposed to move in within a couple of weeks, but we've just been delayed again.
Thank you Katherine! Even though this bathroom is tiny, the reno took much longer than planned and we all shared one bathroom which is the same size as this one. It was worth it in the end.
It looks beautiful Rene! So classic and fresh! I remember when we renovated our bathroom in our first home, I was just so excited because I knew everything was super clean! Such a good feeling! Enjoy!
Thanks Fran! Yes, clean is the best part!
Beautiful! I'm totally swooning over that marble hex tile and I love the way that you framed the subway tile around the window!
Thank you Kris! We almost put penny tile in there, but I'm glad we went with marble now.
Absolutely gorgeous! I re-read your original vision and you mentioned that the tile guy gave you some tips for cleaning the tub as opposed to reglazing. Can you share those? We are going to redo our 1930's bathroom and there is no way I will replace that big, awesome, original tub, but it needs some help! And I rather not reglaze if I don't have to! Thanks, Tammy
Absolutely! Look for a post in the near future with details about cleaning old porcelain tubs.
Can't wait for that tip. We kept our original tub and it's hard to clean. My husband recently tried a combination of cleaning products — one after the other — which worked well. I'll have to find out from him what they were.
Lovely renovation! I love all the details you chose, from the floor and wall tiles to the sink and light fixture. The artwork is a unique touch. Well done!!
Your bathroom looks to be about the same size as our 1922 bungalow bathroom. We had a window in the shower that we replaced with patterned glass block for privacy. Your bathroom may be on the second floor, but is privacy not a concern? I see a lot of leafy trees through the window, but what about in the winter?
Claudia
Thank you Claudia! Our back yard is very private, even in the winter. The boys don't seem to mind at all. We did use glass blocks in our downstairs bath which faces the neighbor's house beside us. That was a must!
You must be thrilled! I remember when I finally updated our oldest bathroom with the same yellow and black tile [our house was built in 1946]…..it was a great day! I love how classic you kept it!
We are in the midst of selecting a pedestal sink as well as toilet for our powder room Reno. Thanks for sharing, I think this sink and faucet is going to be it.
