Yesterday I mentioned that I’m not a big new year’s resolution person. I find myself trying to improve aspects of my life throughout the year making adjustments along the way. Over the past year I’ve made a few adjustments that I feel are helping me live a healthy, peaceful life. I want to prepare for the future and do all I can to ensure that I will be here for my family and make the most of our time together.
Exercise – This is a huge one folks. Like it or not, we all need to move every day. Running and strength training have always been my go-tos, but in the last year Mr. and I (due to injuries) have spent more time walking than running. Surprisingly, you can burn quite a few calories walking and it is great for lifting the spirits! I’ve spoken of the RunKeeper app before, and this really is a great way to track walks, runs, and bike rides. We’ve started out the year tracking our mileage and are looking forward to watching the miles go up over the year. Strength training is equally (if not more) important when you get to be my age. If you cannot get to the gym or to yoga class, you might find something here that will help. I have also used Sworkit which is a free and convenient way to customize your workout and you can do it anywhere with your i-phone. Do you have a favorite fitness app?
Vitamins and Supplements – A while back I was feeling sluggish and not my usual self. I had gotten out of the habit of taking vitamins at the time and really wasn’t sure what, if anything, I should be taking. That all changed when I read this post. If you are wondering what vitamins and supplements do, this easy guide might help you too. By the way, magnesium really works ;). Do you have a supplement you couldn’t go without?
Vegetables – If I have a resolution that is new for 2015, it would be to eat more raw food. No extreme diet or anything, just more raw food. I’ve found some really great salads lately that I love like cumin lime black bean quinoa salad, ultimate Greek chopped salad, and kale and brussels sprout salad. Find more salads here. Do you have a favorite salad?
Here’s to our health friends!

Happy New Year René! Great tips and I am trying to do the same … just simple lifestyle changes along the way. Although this year I do feel a good sense of kickstarting things!!

Agreed, simple works for me. Happy new year Kim!

I like your list Rene. I definitely do not make exercising a priority unless I am paying for classes. That is the only way I get myself to do it! Hope you have a healthy & happy year ahead!

Thank you Lisa! Happy new year to you!

i use runkeeper and LOVE it! except i only use it to track longer runs so if i have a week where i only go on short runs it pops up at 6 am and says "remember when you thought this was a good time to workout." and i am like you jerk i was sleeping!!!! chris and i started the t25 dvds this week and i am loving them so far- intense but SHORT and i know i can survive 25 minutes. and i started whole 30 again…. i need to detox and also get back in line for good. let's do this!

Cassie, congrats to you on your recent runs! 25 minutes really isn't that long – good reminder to just do it.

thanks for the link to the goop site. I was extremely impressed with their supplement breakdown especially about the B vitamins where it referenced that 50% of the population has a genetic mutation that does not allow for the breakdown of certain b vitamins (folic acid). I recently found out I have that mutation (which explains a lot of weird symptoms and medical issues I've had since childhood) and so am trying to reconfigure my supplement/vitamin regimen. thanks again for the link.

Nancy, I'm glad you found it helpful. There is so much information out there it can all be so confusing. Good luck to you!
