We have plans to one day enlarge our bedroom, add a walk-in closet, and a master bath. Until that day comes, I will continue to update with paint & fresh accessories every few years. I’ve been hinting around about this little bathroom of ours for a while and thought it was high time that I share a few pictures. While it isn’t completely finished, it is in the very least a fresh improvement from where it was.
The old bathroom was Benjamin Moore Black and you can see it here and here. As I said before, I wanted the bathroom to be lighter and to have a fresh relaxing vibe. I considered light grays and pale spa blues, but eventually decided to go with white. The trick was matching the white tile. Benjamin Moore, White Dove was a very close match and I happened to have some left from painting the living room. I freshened the trim paint up with Benjamin Moore, Decorator’s White. Still to do is the ceiling. The plan is the add plank board and paint it out in something like BM, Palladium Blue.
You might remember this post where I began my hunt for a sea fan to hang above the glass shelf. A sweet reader gave me the heads up about a sea fan at Pottery Barn. I ordered it immediately! It was white which I painted black. I knew it would be a little on the large size for the space and had actually decided to go with a piece of artwork there instead. But, the other day I hung the sea fan on a nail that was already there just to stand and stare at it for a while. I actually liked it right away. The loose free form shape breaks up all the squares in the room so I never took it down. We already had the glass shelf, but move it down so that it is mounted on the tile. It looks much better in its new location.
The tank of the toilet is our only counter space in this room so I try to keep things simple.
Because the room is small, I’ve tried to add tiny details to make it a little more special. We switched out the old light switch with a new push button switch and I love it! The IKEA mirror was something we already had.
The medicine cabinet is one we ordered from Lowes years ago and like the walls, it has seen a coat or two of paint. When the bathroom was painted black so was the medicine cabinet. Once I painted the room white the black cabinet was feeling too heavy, but I didn’t want to go with white. I really like the zinc cabinets from Restoration Hardware, but didn’t want to shell out $700+ for a medicine cabinet when ours is just fine. I picked up a bottle of gunmetal acrylic craft paint from Micheal’s and painted it. Looks like a zinc cabinet now!
The wire bucket was a gift from Rejuvenation Hardware last year.
I wanted to add a little splash of color to the room on the wall behind the door. We have a towel bar on the back of the door so art in glass frames doesn’t work so well back there. I’ve accidentally opened the door too far before and broken glass. Canvas is actually perfect there so I painted an abstract that reminds me of the ocean.
A little detail shot of the sasanquas from our garden.
Thanks for stopping by!

I love the look of your bathroom. It appears to be about the same size as my bathroom that also needs some TLC. What's the approximate size of the sink, and the bathroom itself?
Thanks!
René says
Nancy,
Our bathroom is around 4×5' not including the tub. The sink is about 21" wide and might be a tad big for the space, but we wanted a larger basin. Hope this helps.
