Pinterest is both a blessing and a curse. There are so many fun and inspiring projects that my list of things to try must be a mile long. Last weekend I gave my lamp a mercury glass makeover. The lamp was made of clear glass and I wanted something with a little sparkle and contrast on our entry table.
While it’s not the easy to capture the detail of a reflective object, I’m super happy with how it turned out and it looks even better in person! There are tutorials all over pinterest and they all are slightly different.
What I did:
1. Tape lamp to protect parts I did not want to paint.
2. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water.
2. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water.
3. Lightly spray lamp to coat with water mixture.
4. While still damp spray with mirror effect spray paint.
5. Let dry.
I only applied one coat to achieve the look I wanted, but some apply several coats. The longest part was taping the lamp, but the spraying took less than 3 minutes. Easy!

This is so good to know. Love it esp. with the textured burlap shade!

Thanks Fran! The shade came with the lamp, but I like it even more now that the lamp is shiny.
