The other day I popped into a local client’s home to chat about projects and catch up. She’s one of my favorites and you can see other rooms we’ve worked on here. What started out as one or two rooms has now pretty much covered the entire house. Her husband says that I’m not allowed to come over anymore, ha! Last spring we decided to make the screened porch a prettier space – an outdoor room that the entire family of four (plus a sweetheart golden retriever) could use.
*Note: Please overlook the blurry i-phone pictures. And keep in mind that nothing is styled. If I waited until everything is perfect I would never get to share :).
Here is what we started with. On the wish list was something for the deck – either clean it or paint it or both. I had just completed my deck makeover and was very happy with the results so I shared that idea with my client. Also needed was privacy. Do we go with shades or curtains? The wicker furniture was in good shape, but the cushions needed to be replaced.
We moved the love seat so that its back was positioned toward the neighbor’s house. This made room for a console table on the brick wall which holds lanterns for evening lounging. We also brought in a round hammered table that comes in handy for serving appetizers, etc.
My client decided to have the decking treated with Deckover in drift gray and it looks fantastic! We also added the indoor/outdoor rug from Ballard which has proven to be a great choice! The kids and four-legged friend have put it to the test all summer. The fresh new cushions in a neutral colorway along with some colorful throw pillows give the space really relaxing vibe.
And of course palms were a must out here! We went with the outdoor curtains from West Elm which make all the difference in privacy at night. Did I mention that you can hear the creek that runs through the backyard?
