I first planted this tower a couple of years ago. It’s nothing special really, just pots that I already had (some of them not so pretty) stacked one on top of another. Some experts will tell you that you have to insert a tube in the center with holes for drainage, but I never did. And it worked just fine. If there is a simple way to do something, I will do it. I love this little thing so much!
I’ve learned a little about herbs over the years and made some adjustments to the tower that I thought I would pass along. First of all, I re-positioned the pots toward the back leaving more space in the front of each pot. I did this because the tower’s back is against a fence and doesn’t receive any sun. It also gives the plants more room. I learned that basil likes more water, so I planted it on the bottom which stays wetter than the top. I placed herbs like thyme and rosemary at the top because they can take the heat. By the way, the rosemary on the very top (not pictured because it is going through an ugly stage :)) made it through the winter and is trying to make a comeback. I’m hopeful that it will.

After living up north in Michigan my whole life and recently moving down to NC, the thought of having a veggie garden started this early in the season makes me a little giddy! 🙂 I love the idea behind this herb garden, my husband would love this with all the cooking he does!

An herb tower, what a great idea. I think I'll have to try this.

Absolutely love this idea. Thanks for reminding me about it. I think I might give it a go this year — so helpful to have the info about where to plant the rosemary vs. basil. When we moved, I stupidly gave all my pots away. Just couldn't face packing one more thing. Regretting that decision right about now! But I suppose all the money I spend on fresh herbs at the store could go to buying more pots instead. How's that for rationalization?Do you find that the strawberry pot is a good place for herbs vs. a regular pot?

So far so good Camille. Herbs like to be neglected to a certain point, so I'm hoping that the ones I planted up high will fair okay. Let me know if you try it.

I saw this last night on Pinterest and don't ever remember you posting about this before. I love it. I've never done any herbs before but I'd love to try this year. It's not too late to plant them right? I'm thinking our back deck will be perfect b/c it gets a ton of sun in the afternoon. I guess I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Enjoy your herb tower – it's a work of art Rene!
