I saw this image on pinterest and feel in love! It all starts with the little black dress, a classic piece if there ever was one. Then you add the nude pumps – also classic, but with a current twist (plus this color lengthens those legs). Last and certainly not least, the leopard bag – does leopard ever go out of style? This neutral combo is a winner every time in my opinion. I thought it would be fun to pull together a hi-low version of this look.
the “high”: $1121
the “low”: $219.44
Now it’s your turn. Can you tell a difference between the two?

There is nothing quite like a chic black dress. I agree that the nude pumps give it an updated feel while also flattering the legs. You can never go wrong with that combo! The Low looks just as clean and polished as the High. My opinion is that you don't need the "most expensive" of any category because it all comes down to how you pull it off. I work with a young gal who has an incredible sense of inherent style, and I was floored when she told me she's a LOFT shopper and her local Kohl's!! I was guessing Nordstrom…

You are right Mary-Irene! Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between the two.

I think shoes are one of those things that can be told apart between "high" versus "low." High quality heels just look better. Just for an example the shoes you posted, a "high" quality shoe would never have a seam right on the front of the toe box, unless it was an interesting detail. It's harder to wrap the leather around the front, hence why a lot of lower quality shoes don't do that and they put a seam in the front of the shoe. But, I agree with what you're saying. I definitely have pieces in my closet that people are shocked at the pricetag – for being much lower than what they thought!

Ha! I noticed those little seams too, but when searching I did find higher end shoes with quirky details like that. I suppose sometimes, as you said, those details are intentional.

Do you know who makes the dress in the picture? I love the whole look. Thanks for posting!

Maria,
The comment on the pin said Marc Jacobs. I have searched and haven't been able to find it anywhere. May be from a previous season? Love that silhouette though!

Seriously loved that photo on Pinterest, too. Awesome finds. Love the leopard print with the black dress. Need to pick me up one of those bags!
