Hi friends. Just popping in for a moment today. If you follow on instagram you might already know that our town was covered in ice last Thursday night. Over 100,000 folks were without power including us. I know it sounds crazy, but I find power outages a bit exciting. Being without electricity causes us to pause and step back from all those things we “think” we should be doing. We talk more. We notice more. We connect and share thoughts. I’m thankful we had hot water for showers and a gas stove to heat our food. My candle hoarding tendencies paid off as we had candles in every room at night. We all agreed that the candle light part wasn’t so bad.
Yesterday my family and I worked all day to clear the debris that had fallen (mostly from the magnolia tree) in our yard. It was nice to get out and work hard even if it was storm related. Shortly after we were finished that power came on. Much better than the Wednesday at 11:30 PM time we were given by the power company! Unfortunately others are still waiting for their power to be restored including schools. Needless to say schools are out (again) today.
In other news, we finished the navy bedroom! I can’t wait to share pictures with you later this week. Have a great week!

Although I am aware of the havoc caused by power outages I too love those hours of candlelight and calm that seems to come about from the lack of power. We tend to cuddle around the fireplace and tell stories that might not have been shared otherwise. You can only hope that nobody gets hurt but if all is well then I think it is rather good for us once in awhile.
Hmmm…better hoard some more candles myself. 🙂

I couldn't agree more!

What an excellent attitude, Rene. Even though it must have really put you out, it's so great to hear that you made the most of it and got to enjoy a little romantic candlelight!

I love that saying and it really hits home. So glad you are all ok, and I know the mess you were dealing with. We always have tree debris after storms! Can't wait to see your navy bedroom. Hope you come join our giveaway. xo Nancy

My parents drove down to us for some heat since their power was out. They were told the same time frame and they were very thankful it was sooner. They said all the broken trees were so sad. Hopefully this was the last of it and a warm up is on the way! You always make the best of a situation though! Love the candles!

Glad your parents are okay! Mr. and I just went for a run in our neighborhood and saw so many large trees that had fallen. Thankfully, each one had fallen in the opposite direction of a house. Yes, things can always be worse.

We lost power for a few days about a month ago and my daughter and I got under the covers of my bed and read and talked. It was such an easy, sweet time and I'm sure had the power been on we never would have connected like that. Hope you're staying warm!

Glad you got it back sooner than later – that's a big plus. And it is nice to be forced to unwind and slow down. The candlelight looks so pretty – also a plus 😉

I was thinking of you when I saw your town on national news! Glad to hear all is well (except for the debris..ugh) I don't mind a power outage for a day or so! 🙂

We've had our share of power outages this winter as well. It was a remarkably enjoyable time with my family, talking and playing together. Glad you got to enjoy the togetherness as well – and have the power come back on quickly, before it got too cold 🙂

We've lost power quite a bit too this year. While it is an inconvenience, there certainly are benefits too. It keeps us grounded. Fun times to share with the kids – shadow puppets on the wall! The best times!
