Hi everyone! This might be my last post for a while until I figure out the ins and outs of the new computer. The simplest things are taking hours. But in the mean time, I’m sharing a few of my favorite décor items that never fail. I thought you might find it helpful.
1. Add green. I believe that every room needs something green. Whether it is faux or real (there are some pretty convincing “fauxs” out there) each room can benefit from a touch of green. If fiddle head figs are too intimidating, think moss, faux succulents and boxwood orbs. Glass containers allow you to see the most green.
2. Frames with oversized mats. Frames of various shapes and sizes make a great display, but I really like the visual impact of a larger mat. They can be used to frame art or photos and work well in groupings.
3. Chunky baskets. Anything that serves more than one purpose is perfect in my book. Baskets, especially the chunky ones are functional and add texture to any décor style.
4. Linen curtains. Window dressings can be rather costly. Even a simple white linen curtain can add loads of warmth to a room and make a room look more finished. They can easily be embellished with trims or fabrics or pinch pleats can be added for a more custom look.
5. Bamboo shades. I love the extra layer bamboo shades add to a window, especially when paired with white curtains.
6. Herringbone rug. This is my favorite rug! I have used it over and over and it always works! It is soft underfoot, adds a nice pattern without being to invasive, and the neutral color makes it versatile.
7. Glass lamps. I’m a fan of lamps in general and lately have fallen for the blue-green glass lamp. It adds a nice fresh touch of color without being too bright or too specific.
8. Trays. Everything looks better on a tray, it’s true. I have them everywhere. They are great for corralling items in entries, or on ottomans. You can serve your guests using them. Bottom line, you just can’t have enough.
9. Blue and white ginger jars. I’ve picked up on some negative vibes about blue and white lately, but I have to say, this is a classic. Yes it has come into favor lately, but blue and white has always been around I venture to guess, always will be.
Now it’s your turn. What would you add to this list?

I love all of these! I've recently started adding more green to our rooms and it does make a difference (especially in the winter). I wish I had more rugs throughout our house but they are so pricey and my husband and I don't agree on a style. I do love a good smelling candle in a room as well (Rosy Rings are my current favorite – gorgeous and amazing smell). Hope the new computer becomes more agreeable quickly!!

Yes! Great smelling candles are a must! I love any of the diptyques and have even had luck with a few of the target candles.

Yay for baskets and green!

perfect list! We just outfitted every window in our downstairs with the LENDA CURTAINS from ikea. White linen 96" length and it comes with the pinch pleat already done. Oh, for $25 a double pack. Bam. Love this whole list.

Pinch pleat already done?! Where have I been?

I know exactly how you feel about a new computer Rene! My hubby surprised me with one and I have to say I was more comfortable with the old one for the same reason you are. Patience, tech help and persistence and I'm getting there! I love blue and white ginger jars. My mom had a collection of blue and white. I think it's a classic. I seem to find myself putting a pretty candle in each room. Great list!

Great tip on the herringbone rug!!!

All good things Rene. Especially loving that rug…it's one I've been considering.
Can't think of anything to add, except pillows….haha which of course goes without saying 🙂

All great tips. My favorite is a green plant. Adds life to a room!

I love this list Rene. I've actually been eyeing up that basket for our master. Do you have it or have you used it in a project? I'm also a big fan of plants – small, medium, or large. They make such an impact. Although I'm sad because I think our plants got zapped by the cold during our electricity outage and I'm not sure if I'll be able to revive them. I would add books to this round-up. Any books that have special meaning or that you've enjoyed could be added as a small stack to a coffee table or shelf.
René says
Holly, I have not used that actual basket, but I have used many Pottery Barn baskets in past projects. I have consistently liked the quality and love this one!

Could not agree more with all your picks, Rene. I am in love with that West Elm rug–it's what we have now in our living room. Good luck with the new computer!

Perfect list! I don't want to tell you how long I have had blue and white ginger jars and bowls decorating my house but things come and go but I always kept a few to brighten up a room. They are classic and give any decor a little elegance. I never tire of white linen drapes, baskets, and classic frames, they make a home! We think alike. I love your blog, good luck with the computer.
