Hi friends. As mentioned in our 2014 to-do list post, I’m planning a room update for our youngest son. He loves water and sail boat images and has always been a blue guy. I thought it best to pull a tentative plan together to help me get started. The paint was purchased a while back (Hale Navy, BM) and I cannot wait to get started. The room is tiny so it shouldn’t take long.
Here is a theme board to help me focus.
Parker’s bed is black (similar to the one above). I picked up the mirror to hang above it yesterday. There is no room for a bedside table so a sconce or two is a must! The floors are painted white and I’m torn on whether to go with a simple, clean rug like the one shown above or to spice things up with a Persian rug. 2″ white wood blinds are currently hanging in the room, but they do not provide the interest or sun blocking qualities that I would like to see in there. So, I’ll most likely go with a bamboo shade and curtains trimmed out in navy. Other items that aren’t pictured are a dark stained dresser and a secretary. I really like the pieces as is because they anchor the room. (I’m not one to paint everything).
Here are some images that have inspired me…

I love your blog! I'm moving my youngest into his own room right now and I'm working on a similar design. Do you have a source for the sconce and the sheets? I feel like I've scoured the entire web for ticking striped sheets. Can't wait to see yours finished!

Thank you Michele! They are both from IKEA, but the bedding is actually a duvet. Hope this helps.

We used the ikea duvet in my guys shared room. We have lots of touches of navy and I dreamed of doing hale navy but didn't have the courage. I cannot wait to see how this turns out! I still need to figure ou window treatments, lighting and art for the boys room.

I've been debating about buying those curtains for our house and now that I see you like them I'm definitely getting them 🙂 Cant wait to see your son's room
René says
I like them too, but might need to add blackout wither to the shades of the curtains.

I'm working on my daughter's room with navy and white too. However, since she's a girl she will be getting mixes of coral in there too. We painted BM Hale Navy in a powder room- it is a gorgeous color! Love all your inspirations and your design board! Can't wait to see it come together.

Where did you get the rug inspiration? I've been wanting to add touches of the sea to our master bedroom/bathroom. My parents own an oil painting of an Alaskan fishing boat my dad worked on painted by my great-grandmother…I wonder if I could steal it from them 🙂 hehe Love this!!
René says
Wow! I think you need that painting! The rug was from Joss & Main, but I missed out 🙁
