Hi everybody! I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was a good mix of relaxation and finishing little projects.
Last year I recovered this ottoman in our family room and honestly, it was beginning to look horrible. After a year’s worth of feet propping it was ready for a new fabric. I’ve been on the hunt for a leather or faux ostrich – something simple that wouldn’t limit me color wise. I lucked up and found a faux ostrich over the weekend and Mr. and I recovered it together. This was definitely a two person job! More on that soon.
Something else on our to-do list was hanging art in the family room. Done! I’ll be sharing a great online custom mat service later this week. P.S. I ordered these pillows last November from J&M. When they finally arrived I was a little sad to see blue and white on the cover of Pottery Barn. Fingers crossed that this color combo isn’t overdone like ikats, chevron, and horizontal stripes (guilty). Yikes!
Mr. and I were on a mission last weekend that required a doughnut pan. So off to Sur La Table we went. We could spent hours (and hundreds) in there.
Just around the corner from Sur La Table happens to be our favorite wine bar. We popped in and tried a new (to us) wine. The whole day felt like we were on vacation somewhere else. Don’t you love it when that happens?
Many of you know that my father died at a young age of 46. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him and wish he could meet our boys. The other day as Mr. and our youngest set out to chop wood for our first fire of the season, I mentioned to Parker that Dad always wore this buffalo plaid shirt when he chopped wood. (I have two of Dad’s favorite shirts and wear one of them often). Parker put on Dad’s shirt and it fit him. He looks so old in this picture. I think he liked the idea of wearing his grandfather’s shirt to chop wood.
Mattie Gray very much approved of the fire.
If you are looking for a soup to try this winter, I highly recommend chicken, bacon, and wild rice found here. We served it up with good bread and everybody went back for seconds!
Sunday morning I made cinnamon baked doughnuts and they were delicious. I accidentally doubled the recipe though and now we have more than we’ll ever eat. Oops! I hope your Monday goes well!

What a lovely weekend! I'm a big fan of blue & white color combination. I think it's a timeless classic that will always be in style. Not trendy like ikat & chevron. Curious, where did you buy your botanicals for your art? Did you do it yourself or by chance is there an online source?
René says
I hope you are right Jaclyn. Classic is my goal. The botanicals came from a new on line source. I'll be sharing the details later this week.

Your weekend sounds amazing!! What a sweet pic of your son in your father's shirt – something to cherish for sure. Cooking stores are such an addiction of mine (they make me think I can cook anything and it will look gorgeous and clean itself up).

Looks like a great weekend! So sweet that your boy can now wear your dad's shirt. xo

Between the promise of a new DIY project, the sweet backstory with the buffalo check shirt and the delicious looking soup, it sounds like you and your family had one heck of a weekend.

Always a thrilled to read a new post on your blog. I have been eying those lanterns on your mantel. Please tell where you found these beauties. Also, how tall are they? I too made it to Sur La Table this weekend after reading Green Street blog (I cannot wait to try those donuts).
René says
Thanks Beth! The lanterns are around 18" and came from Kirkland's on line. Hope this helps.

Glad you made the doughnuts! Aren't they delish?? I wish I would've doubled the recipe!! 🙂

Sounds like an awesome weekend…the pic of your son with your dad's shirt is so sweet. 🙂
I love the expressions that Mattie Gray has….she speaks with her eyes….wonder what she was saying when staring at you and while gazing at the fire. It's a shame she can't speak "human". Love our children and four legged babies.
Stay warm, seems like our cold weather is headed your direction.

School is closing 2 hours early today due to the snow prediction. Last week it was cancelled two hours early and never snowed.
