Hello there friends. I hope you all are warm and aren’t sitting on the roadside waiting for help. Gosh, this weather has been cra-zazy! The kids are out of school again which means sleep overs and hungry teenagers. I’m not really sure how many boys are in our house right now, but I’m pretty sure there are more than our two.
As promised, I have a great source for custom matboards. I’ve been making some changes to our family room that included paint, and fresh accessories. For too long now the space behind our sofa was a blank wall. I knew that I wanted something fairly large there, but wasn’t sure what.
I decided on a set of three frames with larger mats. I really like the graphic pop of the black frames with the large white mat. Now that our walls are Worldly Gray and now longer White Dove, I really wanted something that would stand out, but not be too busy. I looked at several framing options and decided to buy the frames from Michael’s. I priced out having the mats custom cut there, but before committing, I decided to explore all options. Why pay more if you don’t have too? I found several sources online and went with this one. Basically, I bought three mats for the price of one custom cut mat from Micheal’s. It is a wholesale service, so I had to purchase a certain amount in order to get the deal. No problem, because we always need mats. The process was very easy allowing you to choose the color and size you need. I ordered the mats on Monday and they arrived Friday!
For now, I have botanicals in the frames that I printed from The Biodiversity Heritage Library. Have you heard of it?
You will find so many beautiful images that it will be hard to choose! Eventually, I will put “real” art in the frames, but for now I’m enjoying the botanicals.

I meant 'pillows'.

I'm curious about the number of mats you had to purchase from the wholesale source. I need lots of mats, but in different sizes. Thanks, Joni

Joni,
I believe the requirement was a $30 minimum purchase. If you need lots of mats, you are more than likely going to be okay.

This is exactly what I want to do behind my couch! Do you know the dimensions of the frames, mats and photos that you used? I love the way this looks!
René says
Thank you! The frames are 20 X 26" with a 5 X 7" mat opening. Hope this helps.

Sorry about those last two comments. That was sent by accident but I must say this is the exact look I was going for! Perfect mat and frame dimensions.

What finish did you choose when ordering these mats? I see a "smooth white" finish, is that the one? These are so pretty!
René says
Smooth white – I think. Thanks!
