A while back I shared a couple of concept boards of a local client project I had completed. The living room had me somewhat stumped because of an arched window located on the front wall. The windows on the adjacent wall are not arched and are slightly lower than the front windows. I knew in my mind that the best scenario for the room would be to hang all curtains at the same height (as high as possible). Sometimes seeing is believing so I supplied my client with several images so she could get a visual. We both came to the conclusion that sometimes ignoring the arch is the best way to go. We’ve all seen those awkward custom made shades/curtains to perfectly fit into an arch, but curtains when hung high and wide almost always look better.
What about you – when it comes to arched windows, do you have a preference?

Just worked with a client with an arched window in her office – we ignored it and hung the drapery panels on either side of the window just as you would if there were no arch. Happy client, happy life!
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Agreed! I like them hung high and uniform across all windows. Of course it's a matter of personal taste, but I believe you can trick the eye if the curtains are all the same.

I have TWO arched windows that are located in the middle of eaves of our roof. Getting the rod to go above or even equal with the top of the window is not an option. I have been stumped now for 3 years on how to address this issue. One of the windows is in the master bedroom so the light just pours in when the sun rises…any ideas?

I saw an example of exactly the same sort of window, which was beautiful by the way. That's a tough one when it comes to blocking the sun. Would a tension rod work in between the eaves? Or what about cafe curtains installed 3/4 the way up the window for at least partial coverage? Would love to see what you decide to do.

I really like the photos and agree for a big room with a series of arched windows that plain curtains look the best. I have a room with a single arched window and we put in a large shutter on it, but if there had been more than one I think curtains are the way to go.

So glad you posted this. I have a new client with arched windows in their family room and I've been trying to decide how I want to address them. These pics really help!

I have some arched windows and I ignored them and hung my rod above. Problem solved. 🙂
