We just returned from an absolutely wonderful beach weekend. As with any family weekend, I didn’t want it to end. I realize that our days are numbered as a family of four. This time next year our oldest son will be in college. I’m one of those mothers who cries about things. Letting go is hard – even when you know they are more than prepared for the next phase in life. I’ll miss these family trips so much. The late night sillies from all being crammed into a tiny hotel room. The long car rides that find us all singing along to the playlist. Exploring new places together. I’m crying now. Make that ugly crying. Can’t help it. Everyone warned me that they would grow up fast. But, there is just no way of knowing how very fast it happens. This all really hit home when last night I read Emily’s Saturday Six.
Guess that means we have less than 50 Saturdays left. Gulp. Thank you for letting me share.
And now for our winner of the Lovefeast giveaway…Lisa Scibilia. Congratulations Lisa! Thank you to LoveFeast for sponsoring!
I am living this right now Rene! Enjoy every minute and be sure to continue to have those family times even when the boys are grown and gone, it's what makes a family tightly knit and keeps everyone together and strong!
Great advice Cathy! We need to live closer! XO
Based on what you share on this blog, it's clear that you and your husband have built a foundation for your sons so that, when they leave the nest, they will not only be your family but also your friends.
I love these posts and always look forward to reading about your loving family!
Thank you Ashley! These family posts may not be the most exciting for newlyweds. I appreciate your words of support. XO
I am with you sister! My daughter is a junior and I am already sad thinking about her going to college. I saw the same posting day and got teary eyed. Goes by way too fast.

You are so right Susan! Enjoy the next two years :).
It is hard to let go. You are not alone. My two oldest left this year and now my two you gets remain while attending college. But it won't be long and they will be gone too. I can't really think about it. I homeschooled mine so I was used to their company 24/7. The good part is that they do miss us too and come back often to visit! Enjoy this year with your oldest. Hugs
Thank you! Yes, I'm sure we both have a future full of good times ahead.
Now my two youngest. Not you gets
I feel you Rene, I was just like that. Now at 31 and 25 Im a little better, but my daughter is only 5 miles away, but my son I see infrequently and that kills me. They have been my life and always will be. I think the way you raised them and that you all are so close will never wane. I do see that now my son has a serious gf he is transferring needing me to her, which is another crying moment to get used to! I miss them needing me, which neither of them seem to do anymore. But the adult relationships are fun, too! Being able to share a bottle of wine, etc have been fun and Im so proud to see the adults they've become. Once a mom always a mom, no one can take that away!

Well, you know you've raised them right when they no longer need you, even if it is bitter sweet.
oh what a sweet post! cherish he moments, friend!
Thank you Cassie!
I am officially depressed. 🙁 You are a wonderful momma. I"m sure they won't go too far away.
Oh lordy, I didn't mean to be a downer today. If you could only see my puffy eyed self. #cucumberslicesstat
I think I've decided against encouraging college after sending my oldest to kindergarten this year. Just kidding. But with how hard it has been to see him off every morning for 7 hours, I cannot even think of what sending him off to college will be like. Big hugs to you!
Thanks for that! You made me laugh out loud! 🙂 🙂
Sounds like such a lovely weekend Rene. I admire you and how you and hubby are raising your boys and the family morals and values you have. You are a fabulous Mom! Such a sweet and heartwarming post.
Thank you Allison!
Sweet friend. I agree with Allison completely. So hard to watch them grow up. My sister just sent her first to college so I know the emotions well. Savor it all. You always remind me to hold onto these days when they are so young.
One of my biggest regrets in life is that I did not have my own children. I love my step kids but I know it can hardly be the same…… I can't imagine how hard it is to let go. I know it was difficult for my Mom and I have seen my sister go through it…..you can't think about the future too much and just enjoy the time you have with them:)
Great advice Sherry. Your step children are lucky to have you.
Rene, my daughter has
been gone to college for
three weeks, now. I wasn't
fully prepared for the ache
that I felt when we arrived
back home. Enjoy all these
Saturdays, my friend. Our
son has four more years in
the nest….200 more Saturdays–
hooray!
xo Suzanne
PS: Congrats to Lisa, one of
my blogging besties : )
