After lots of conversation and research on vines, we decided to go with teardrop ivy. There are so many vines that can be trained this way, but for our space/lighting/zone, etc. this seemed to be the way to go.
We went with a “two x” pattern. Mr. screwed three screws across the bottom and three across the top, equidistant from each other.
We happened to have copper wire on hand for the trellis.
It was super bendable and easy enough to twist around the screws to secure it into place.
We looked for plants that had long tendrils to get a jump start on the training process.
I will be sure to post more pictures once our espalier is established. Fingers crossed it grows fast!
This girl was itching to get in the garden and help which is a no-no ;). #bullinachinashop
Oh it's going to be lovely when it all grows in!!!! I cannot wait to see it! And clearly Maddie Gray can't either. Cutie pie.
I'm pretty darn excited for you, and can't wait until the ivy grows. And, oh my gosh, it looks like your beautiful white peony is about to burst!
Very cool Rene…that's gonna look fantastic 🙂

That will look so pretty and I bet the ivy grows quickly. Your backyard is beautiful…so green and lush. I can't take my eyes off of Maddie Gray though. She is adorable.
Oh, I love it already! 🙂 That little area is beautiful, what a perfect addition. We spent our weekend planting boxwoods, so I'm a happy girl!
That corner will be so pretty once it gets goin' good. How fun!
Rene– How nice will the vines look when they grow in! The little bit of your garden I could see looks great – so nice Spring is here!

It can't be that easy can it? Can't wait to see and by the way….your back yard is fab!!!
Your patio area looks so pretty! I currently have a hydrangea in a pot on my patio because I don't have any shade in the yard to grow it. Crossing my fingers it lives. I can't wait to see how the vine looks once it's established.
This is just SO clever!! It will be beautiful!! franki
