Weekend before last, I begged invited my family to take a walk with me and gather pine cones to make a wreath. It was a beautiful fall day and the perfect time to slow down and enjoy being outside. We ended up gathering two plastic grocery bags full which ended up being exactly the amount needed to make a wreath with only a few left.
Pine cone wreaths are all over pinterest so I won’t bore you with all the details, but I will share what worked for me. First of all, this project took a looooong time! So I worked on it when I could. I used an 18″ Styrofoam wreath which I spray painted black. Brown would have been ideal, but I already had black and it worked fine. Next I began hot gluing pine cones on. Really, you just do it the best way you can fitting the different sizes in where they fit best.
My posts will be sporadic this week and the etsy store will remain closed until BLACK FRIDAY. The store will re-open Friday and all items will be $5 off including custom orders. Don’t miss out!

I need to send my kids on a pinecone collecting hunt . So pretty on your new door.
It may sound crazy, but it looks like a lot of the pine cones have a touch of silver or gray in them. I've never noticed the subtle variation in the colors of pine cones–and this wreath is a beautiful way to display that! Beautiful.
oh my gosh love the door color! and love the wreath! it looks amazing!
Your wreath is gorgeous! I have a huge bag of pinecones sitting in my office just waiting for me to use in a wreath. Thanks for the heads up that this is not a quick project. I'm currently working on a book page wreath that said it took about an hour in the directions–3 days later I'm still not done. 😉

Time well spent – it's gorgeous!

Sooo pretty!
love it!!! and it looks amazing on your snazzy new green front door!
Beautiful! Love the combination of the natural pinecones and satin fabric.
Really cute
How cute and such perfect timing as I just collected a boatload of pinecones for my Thanksgiving decorating this weekend. I love that this wreath could go from fall to winter and still work. So simple, natural and pretty!
Hope you have a fun Thanksgiving week, Rene. I'm so thankful to know you!
Looks fantastic my dear. I love the satin ribbon on it. So excited for the holidays.
Very pretty Rene. Can't believe you were able to find so many pinecones!
I'm sure your boys loved the outing! 🙂 It's perfect against your beautiful new door color! Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!
Looks great! I have a bag of pinecones just waiting for the right project, and this may be it! Love the new green door too!
How gorgeous! I love, love, LOVE this. 🙂 All of those colors are really workin' together, too — they look amazing!
Gorgeous wreath. I made a pine cone wreath years ago but used a wire wreath frame and used floral wire to attache the cones to the frame. It took a long time, indeed! Over the years it started looking ratty so I don't hang it anymore. I'd love to make a new one. But I just can't get myself geared up for all that work!
Love your front door color, too.
Claudia
Love this. Dumb question, maybe: you've attached the wreath to the door frame or the top of the door? I can't tell from the photo. Can you please elaborate a bit more on how you attached the ribbon (which I LOVE)? Thanks.
Sheri,
Here is the link to the post with details on how the wreath was hung. Hope this helps.

Really lovely and worth the time spent on it.

LOVE this! Think I will have to make a run to my parents house (yard) for pine cones! All I have is Maple leaves in mine. 😉 I love the ribbon you chose, btw!
