A Little Before & After

As promised, I wanted to show you what I’ve been up to.

If you’ve been reading my blog for at least a week, then you know that I am on a quest this fall to cozy things up and bring in a more neutral palette.  The above picture is what our family room has looked like for the most part.  The pillows (which I still love) are being used in other rooms now.  I brought in some new pillows, lamps (thank you Kirkland’s), and recovered the ottoman.

Here is what it looks like now.  Recovering the ottoman in a larger pattern made such a difference!  The stripe pillows (because I have a weakness for stripes) worked perfectly.  I also have a yellow and white pair of pillows on order that didn’t make it in time :(.  Once they arrive, I might revise the photo.

I think what I’m most excited about is the new lamps compliments of my friends at Kirkland’s!  Are they not gorgeous!?  Such a huge improvement over my lowly Re-Store lamps with shades that were so small they looked like comb-overs rather than a full head of hair.  Thank you Kirkland’s!

When the cooler months roll in, I really love having cozy throws within arms reach.  Mom is so gifted when it comes to knitting and has made us a couple of blankets that quickly became favorites.

I also love bringing natural elements any time of year.

    I have been thinking about a round mirror to replace the art over my mantle. I like the detail in the Emerald & Orange mirror, but would need to change the color.

    How fun – you've done a great job freshening up your look in this room. I love the new fabric on the ottoman, and I also love the addition of the magnolia leaves (I think those are magnolia leaves, right?). If I can get my act together maybe I can show off my newly painted dresser in our master. Hope you had a great weekend! And I'd love to cozy up on the couch with that throw that your Mom made – that's so nice to have that made by her.

    Isn't it amazing what a difference a few small changes can make? LOVING your ottoman! I walked through Kirklands the other night and was surprised at all of the new things I hadn't seen. They have some fantastic lamps right now…that would be my choice!

    Wow, what a difference a few small changes can make! Love the evolution of this space, your colors, fabric and accessory choices. The space, while neutral feels so warm and inviting. Great job! BTW, Love those lamps! I have my eye on the Mustard ceramic lamp over at Kirklands. But then there is the Wood Kennedy Chair and the Gold Fleck Table lamp and….oh how is a girl to decide?

    Gorgeous cozy updates, Rene! That ikat has always been a favorite, it's the perfect neutral with great impact! We don't have Kirklands in Denver anymore, but I'd choose the Gold Fleck table lamp. Yours are a beautiful addition!

    I am madly in love wit your ottoman!! I have been toying with getting some gray ikat pillows for my house, so I love the fabric you've used!!
    One of the things I thought was so pretty @ Kirkland's was their Antiqued Turquoise Rattan Console Table.

    The ikat-style fabric on your ottoman is fabulous! I love the gray striped pillows with it.
    The boldness of the patterns look so chic against the white sofa and walls!
    I never thought to look for lamps at kirkland! Great to know.

    Rene, I love the warm and cool tones in your living room now. The new fabric on the ottoman looks so fabulous! I love the gray paired with the gold mirror and the warm tone from the basket.

    A Kirkland's just opened near me and I had no idea what it was!! Wow, gotta get there ASAP! There website shows a fabulous coffee box and some darling pin boards. I am a professional organizer and would definitely shop here for those essentials as well. Your ottoman looks amazing, the yellow pillows will pop nicely, too.

    I desperately need new beside lamps as (I'm not naming names) 2 mysterious boys seem to have shattered one of them in an unsupervised pillow fight a few months back! Kirkland's has some cute lamps these days!

    Your family room looks fantastic Rene! The large pattern on your ottoman works so well in your room. I like the addition of the striped pillows and the texture of your Mom's pretty knitted throw. You did a beautiful job with your room. I just peeked at Kirklands and I'm tempted by the gray ceramic lamps.

    I'd love to pamper myself by purchasing the Cheval Jewelry Armoire for our new house! We don't have a full length mirror, so I always have to stand on a kitchen chair and look in one of our larger mirrors to see my full outfit! lol Plus the hidden jewelry storage would be wonderful.
