Several of you asked about the ottoman and wondered if I would share how I reupholstered it. This was such a simple project that anyone could do it!
The fabric that I used had a fairly large pattern and I wanted it to be centered on the ottoman. For smaller patterns you don’t need to worry about this part.
This may sound crazy, but when I upholster ottomans & stools, I like to turn them upside down and literally get on top of them. This flattens the padding down and allows me to get a nice, tight result. No one wants to flip the ottoman over to find that the fabric is droopy, right?
Once I had the fabric positioned (centered), I began stapling every 3″ or so, pulling and spreading the fabric as I went. I always start in the center of the long sides and work my way toward each corner. Then I do the same thing on the short sides stopping within a few inches of the ends.
Once all four sides are stapled, I pull the fabric tightly and staple as close to the end as possible (on the long end).
Next, I take the fabric from the other side and pull it tightly making a nice, crisp fold. Then I staple everything into place.
After everything is stapled, I cut off the excess fabric and finish the job by re-attaching the black cloth to the bottom.
love the fabric!

In the past because I can't stand a mess, I've gone with leather ottomans, but you made changing cloth look simple, and pattern Pretty!
Keeping this for a bench I am doing in a guest room! Fabulous and easy tutorial! Hope you join TUTORIALS TIPS AND TIDBITS tonight!
First let me say that the changes you have made are stunning! Thank u for this post…I have been thinking of redoing a blah bench in my bedroom. Great fabric choice!!!
Really beautiful I love your living room color palette and especially the fabric on the ottoman!

I have a leather one with buttons that the kids have ruined (pleather to be exact). Would it be easy to take off the buttons? I'm so scared to touch it! I guess I shouldn't be if it's already ruined, right?
So fantastic. Thanks for the tutorial. I am drooling over it in your space.
Thanks for the tutorial Rene. Very easy to follow. I'm with Courtney and drooling over that ottoman as well.
Love the ottoman. Could you tell me where your mirror is from. Thanks!
Thanks everybody! Sheri, I haven't tackled that before, but think it would be pretty easy. Anonymous, the mirror came from Joss & Main.

I've always been intimidated by the legs on an ottoman – can do a seat cover with no problems. This tutorial will certainly help. Thanks Rene
The ottoman is gorgeous, Rene!!! Looove that fabric! What a difference it makes in the room:)
Way to go, Cathy! Congrats on the win:)
Just started checking out all the before and afters that linked up, such good stuff! What a great party!!
I am in love with your ottoman, Rene! Great job. You have totally inspired me to reupholster ours. The original fabric is cotton and stained, then I made a quick slipcover for it, again in a cotton that is by now stained (!) and falling apart from too many launderings. This project is definitely in my list. Love your fabric choice and how it so fits with the rest of your room.
