Hey everybody! It seems like this post has been in the making for quite a while now. And, we all love a good before & after so I’m excited to share this one with you.
Being the recipient of Mom’s hand-me-downs is always a good thing. The mountain house is on the market, so I have been offered some of its contents. If you are like me, you may say yes first, then figure out where to put it later. Anyway, to keep this from being too long winded….
I now have campaign chest. My thoughts were to put it in the sun room/office to use for storage. Not sure where, but with some rearranging it would work. And, I love the Icy Teal by Glidden that I used on the ceiling. A special thanks to the Mr. for finishing that project for me ;).
So here is the newly painted chest. It took three coats of primer and two coats of Icy Teal. I used a roller to apply the primer and a foam brush for the color.
The hardware cleaned up easy enough with Bar Keeper’s friend, but the corner pieces were a little trickier because they weren’t removable. My friend Ashley suggested I use Brasso and that worked OK, but I might work on them a little more. Thanks Ashley!
I love how this color is bouncing around the room now from the ceiling to the chest.
I wanted to keep things on the neutral side in here and bring in lots of texture. The chairs are from IKEA. I cannot say enough great things about them! The pillows (you may remember) are from my sponsor. The mirror was one I had in another room and the bird artwork was printed (free) from Vintage Printable (no surprise!).
By the way, thanks for your comments yesterday about the mantel! You all are sweet! And just so you know, I think the sun is going to shine today. So mark the happy lamp off the shopping list :).

Just lovely Rene! What a great "hand me down" and beautiful update to it. Your sunroom looks so inviting, what time should I come for coffee? I'll bring treats…!!!

Rene, I love it. The color is so perfect. What a lucky girl you are to have this given to you.

Rene!! It's even better than what I saw on Instagram. High five girl! What a nice space you've created and that chest is perfect right there. I don't think I knew about that sponsor that did your pillows, so I'll have to add her to my Etsy favorites. A client of mine is interested in some bolsters and they would be perfect. Great job – and yes I always take whatever my Mom offers me (for the most part). Have a good one!

LOVE!! The color is amazing and thank you for always sharing your sources on other pieces in your house. The room looks so good!!
Ashley says
What an amazing transformation, and I can bet a lot of us will be studying your styling in these pictures. It's just perfect.
Sorry to hear the Brasso didn't work that well. Bummer. Could you create a paste from the Bar Keeper's friend and apply that to the corner hardware?
Either way, it looks fantastic!
René says
Thanks ya'll! Oh gosh Ashley, I hope that didn't sound like I didn't like your idea because I did. The Brasso improved the brass, but you know how great Bar Keeper's Friend is. Maybe I'll try it the way you suggested. Thanks!

Could you share with me how your protected the corner hardware while painting. I have a similar piece that I've been wanting to paint but don't want to damage the hardware.
René says
Thanks again everybody! Karen, I used a foam brush to apply the paint. It has a square edge and is fairly easy use around the corners. If I did get paint on it, I would wipe it off immediately. I hope this helps.
